The application of biomass fuels and processes to distributed energy systems can reduce peak power demands on the existing power distribution grid and improve the stability and security of local energy supply systems. This presentation will describe current efforts to apply distributed generation to the Penn State University Park Campus and to apply the results of those efforts to other facilities, such as Department of Defense Facilities. In addition, needs and concepts will be briefly discussed for the application of biomass processes to distributed generation and sustainable energy harvesting on land and in the ocean.
